We can do the following steps when application is not sending mail:

1) Check the SmtpServer name in the webconfig of your application.

2) No we have to check whether the Smtp service is installed in the Server.

See “administrative tools >> Service >> Smtp”

if there is no such service please install the email service from “Add remove windows component” form add remove program.

3) Now we have smtp service installed and working and its listed in the service list. We can also be sure by using following command line commands:

Telnet

open [pcname] 25

or, you can see the link for details command: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323350

4) Now if the mail doesn’t work the we should see the local IIS smtp setting:

The setting can be found under IIS

a) Right Click on the “Default SMTP Virtual Server” then click Properties. User will move to the following wizard window

b) Check the “Connection..” the access type should be “All the expect the list below”.

c) Check the “Relay..” the access type should be “All the expect the list below”. ( this is the setting i have changed when correcting the redirection).

d) Apply and click OK.

Now check the mail. It should work.
